Soy Candle FAQ
Some of our most frequent questions.
- What are the differences between 100% soy wax candles and other company's paraffin wax candles or soy blend candles?
Soy candles are made from 100% all natural soy wax (ours is grown and processed in the United States). Soy is a renewable resource and burns cleaner than paraffin wax candles (paraffin is a by-product of gasoline refining). Soy wax also burns longer because it burns cooler than paraffin wax.- My jar candle has a small pool of wetness on the top of the wax. What is this?
- This is called "sweat." Soy wax has a lower melting point than the paraffin wax which is used for most candles. Soy wax releases excess moisture that it cannot hold. You can leave it or simply wipe it off with a paper towel. It does not affect the burn quality and will usually not show up again after you start burning your candle. This typically only shows up in the jar candles. For optimum performance store your candle in a cool area, out of direct sunlight.
- My wick has a "mushroom" type head on it after burning. What is this?
- This is a build-up of carbon and is found on almost all fragrance candles, particularly those with natural cotton wicks. This should be trimmed before burning again or you may experience a popping sound. It will also produce a much larger flame which will burn your candle faster and hotter, resulting in a shorter burn life for your
soy candle . - My candle is leaving a lot of wax on the sides of the container as I burn it. Is this normal?
- This is called "tunneling." It is usually caused when the first burn of the candle is extinguished before a full melt pool was achieved. Each burn following will
continue to do this, but can be left to burn for 3-4 hours and should straighten out. To get a full melt pool on your candle, burn it for a minimum of one hour for every inch the candle is wide (example: 2 inch wide candle should burn for 2 hours). If you find that you have burned most of your candle in a tunneling fashion, simply switch to a candle warmer to enjoy the remaining aroma from the rest of your candle wax.
